About The Role

Ason Group is seeking a motivated and technically capable Transport Engineer with 3–5 years’ experience to join our highly skilled and experienced Queensland team. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to work on a diverse range of traffic and transport projects across Australia, with a strong focus on traffic impact assessment, access design, development approvals, and transport advisory services.

You will report directly to the Queensland State Manager and will work closely with senior engineers, including a Principal Engineer as well as engineers, planners and modellers in our NSW office. The role offers hands-on involvement in technical delivery, analysis, and reporting across both private and public sector projects.

Skills and Attributes
  • Strong technical aptitude with a practical, solutions-focused approach to transport engineering challenges.
  • Ability to work independently on defined tasks while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in SIDRA, and strong analytical skills demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a consulting environment.
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Experience with CAD, swept-path software, QGIS.
  • Exposure to data analysis or visualisation tools such as Power BI, Python, or R.
  • Familiarity with Australian standards and guidelines (e.g. Austroads, AS2890) and local government traffic requirements.
Responsible For
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs), traffic and transport reports, and supporting technical memoranda for development applications and infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake traffic analysis, including intersection performance assessment, queue analysis, and capacity assessment using industry-standard tools.
  • Prepare swept-path assessments for a range of design vehicles in accordance with Australian Standards and local authority requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of operational traffic management inputs, access layouts, and internal circulation assessments.
  • Analyse and interpret traffic, parking, pedestrian, and cycling data to inform design and approval outcomes.
  • Support the preparation of clear, well-structured technical reports, plans, and presentations for clients and authorities (i.e. councils).
  • Liaise with internal project teams, clients, councils, and other stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of internal tools, templates, and technical processes.
  • Actively contribute to the growth of the Queensland team and foster a positive, collaborative office culture.
Additional Requirements
Experience
  • 3–5 years’ experience in traffic engineering, transport planning, or a related field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Australian transport planning and development assessment frameworks at a local or state level will be viewed favourably.
